ZyXEL AG-225H Multi-Purpose Device
The AG-225H is a multi-purpose device, it's about the size a USB flash drive, but includes all the functionality of a WiFi finder and a USB wireless adapter. And it does this for both the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands, so it supports 802.11a, b, and g. Additionally, ZyXEL went to the trouble of including Soft AP drivers, so when you use the device with your PC you have the option of being a node on the net, or acting as an access point for others. With all these bells and whistles, it's not only a wonder that they were able to squeeze everything into the package, but that all the features work.
WiFi finders are a dime a dozen these days, so it stands to reason that any manufacturer contemplating the creation of one of these things better be thinking of what features that they can add to stand above the crowd. A basic WiFi location device can be purchased for under US$10, so why would anyone even consider this ZyXEL device with a MSRP of US$99?
It's really an issue of the sum of the parts being greater than the whole. The AG-225H is basically made up of 3 parts: (1) a stand alone dual band WiFi Finder, (2) a dual band USB WiFi adapter, and (3) ZyXEL's Soft AP software. In an era where most new notebook PCs have WiFi built in, this may seem a bit redundant, and it would be if the Soft AP software that lets you configure the AG-225H's WiFi as a WiFi access point and share whatever Internet connection your PC has with other devices.

Truly Pic 'N Roll MP313X
If you plan to compete in the iPod-dominated digital music player market, you better be something more than a pretty face. At first glance, the Truly Pic 'N Roll MP313X ($159) brings a lot of different features to the 1GB flash music player table, including a 1.8-inch, 64,000-color LCD, photo-viewing capability, and an SD memory card slot. Unfortunately, these features, along with direct MP3 encoding, an FM radio, and a voice recorder, are overwhelmed by lazy execution in both hardware and software design, as well as a shockingly short battery life.
At 3 by 2 by 0.6 inches, the shiny black Truly Pic 'N Roll MP313X is about half the size of a standard iPod. Adjacent to the LCD is a four-way transport-control joystick. On the top spine are four function controls--EQ, record/A-B, menu/hold, and escape/power--along with a pinhole microphone, all of which makes the MP313X difficult to handle without accidentally hitting a button, unless you remember to hold down the menu button for 3 seconds to put the player on hold. On the left spine are the line-in, headphone, and USB 2.0 jacks; on the right spine is the SD slot.
Included with the Truly Pic 'N Roll MP313X are USB and power cables (the player can be charged with either), along with a case, an armband, and a CD with the TMusic music-management software and a more extensive manual than the included multilingual paper instruction guide.
The Truly Pic 'N Roll MP313X's built-in lithium-ion battery requires 3 hours to charge, but the manual stipulates a 5-hour charge after the first full discharge, a caveat we've never encountered. Eight function options are arrayed on the opening screen: Music, Voice Recorder, Radio, Games, E-text, Picture Gallery, System Setup, and Memory Management, with a battery icon in the lower-right corner. You use the joystick to navigate through the functions and resulting choice lists, and you use the Escape key--rather than the menu button--to step forward and backward through the varying menu screens.
Transferring music is an immediate issue with the Truly Pic 'N Roll MP313X. Windows Media Player 10 doesn't support the player, though it identifies an inserted SD card. You can use Windows Explorer to drag and drop tracks from your My Music folder or install Truly's truly abysmal TMusic. In this software, columns of song information are limited to track name and a redundant Title column, as well as artist, album, track length, and genre; the software doesn't identify a track's file format (WMA or MP3), DRM status, or purchase site, for instance. Populating the software with around 1,100 tracks from the My Music folder took nearly half an hour, and even then, track meta tags were not automatically filled in. Transferring music to the player was not much speedier; we averaged 0.68MB per second. And every time we launched the software, we had to go through the same half hour to repopulate the song information and 2 minutes to repopulate the player's music population. This is unacceptable in our book.
Similarly thoughtless control and function missteps are rife in the Truly Pic 'N Roll MP313X itself. TMusic has no image transfer or management controls, for instance, requiring you to drag and drop photos to the SD card; we got a Null icon when we tried to drop image files directly to the player. And you have to use the memory-management function to tell the player whether to read the built-in or the SD card; the player doesn't combine content into single piles.
There's even less organization for the music list on the Truly Pic 'N Roll MP313X. Instead of having the ability to be sorted by title or artist, tracks are listed helter-skelter--sometimes by album track number, track name, or artist--which makes searching for a specific track nearly impossible. Navigating with the joystick steps through only one track at a time; holding it in the plus (+) or minus (-) position doesn't enable speed scrolling. Since the player can hold nearly 200 tracks, that's a lot of thumb-twitching for finding a single track.
Even the black mini-gavel-shaped earbud design exposes a lack of care; the L and R designations on the earbud stems are embossed in black and nearly impossible to delineate. You do get plenty of--in some cases, too much--information on the playback screen. When you're listening to music, the screen displays a nine-bar volume indicator, the track number (out of the total number of tracks), the track time elapsed, a separate track progress bar, the play and EQ mode, a battery meter, and for some reason, an L/R balance meter such as the ones on old component cassette recorders. While the MP313X's screen is the same size as the one on the photo iPod, displayed images suffer from a severe case of the jaggies.
Audio performance on the Truly Pic 'N Roll MP313X is decent, at the very least. Music quality is good overall, even through the included earbuds. Battery life, however, is abysmal. CNET Labs got a paltry 5.6 hours (audio only) out of the MP313X's internal lithium-ion battery.

uSport Headband for iPod Shuffle
What makes the uSport Headband so unique is that it is the first iPod Shuffle headband accessory on the market. There are many armbands and standard cases for the Shuffle, but this product is in a league all its own. By attaching the Shuffle to a uSport Headband, your motion becomes completely unhindered by earphone wires.
Head movement will never again cause the earbud wires to pull your earphones out, and your arm motion is completely unhindered so that playing sports like tennis or squash do not interfere with your listening pleasure. Listening to music during activities where quick changes of movement occur finally becomes a viable option.
The great thing about the iPod Shuffle and uSport Headband combination is that it is so light that you don't even feel like you're wearing anything more than just a headband!
The uSport consists of two main components. The first is the neoprene case, in which the ipod shuffle is encased, and the second is the high absorbtion, high quality cotten, polyester, rubber blend headband that has custom sewn elastic loops in it.
Once the shuffle is placed inside the neoprene casing, the headphone wires are wrapped up and placed underneath the cord management pocket on the underside of the case. The case is attached to the headband by velcro and the earbuds slide through the rubber band on the headband to achieve the minimal amount of loose cord. The headband is then put on and the freedom of the uSport Headband begins
Step-by-step instruction and full colour pictures are available by clicking the Setup link above.
Features
- Novel design and wire management system
- Sweat-proof case
- Compatible with any earbud style headphone
- Convenient carrying case
- High Quality Sweatband
- Nearly eliminates the problem of the headphones being pulled or falling out while running or doing anything else!

iPod Vending Machines
Apple wants to spread around and is looking for opportunities. They are now installing iPod vending machine in airports. As an example, if you fly to or from Atlanta, you may want to tour around and find this gadget vending machine, where you will find iPods, Shuffles and who knows what now.
The curious thing now, is how are you going to hear any music if there is no MP3 Downloading Machine. It will be great to have it just beside. So if you buy an iPod, you can stuff it with some music somewhere. We will just have to wait for something like that, because who will like to wait in the airport, with a brand new iPod gizmo without any music on it.

Nakamichi Soundspace 10 Audio System
A new product concept for Home Theater System integration that requires simply the addition of a television monitor to create a comprehensive, and high-performance audio/video system. Based on the design-driven SoundSpace product platform, the SoundSpace 10 provides a stunning combination of versatile features, functions, outstanding sonic performance, and sleek, modern styling. The SoundSpace 10 consists of a sensational combination of cosmetically matched components, including a 5-disc MusicBank DVD/CD Changer, A/V Tuner/Processor Unit featuring Dolby Digital and DTS Surround Decoding, 5-Channel Satellite Speaker System, Dual, Active Subwoofer System and a learning-type LCD touch-panel Remote Control. The SoundSpace 10 is unlike any home theater system you have ever seen or heard. It's unparalleled design and sonic performance will enhance any room you dedicate to music and movies.
Unequaled operational convenience is achieved by the use of two separate remote controls. The full-function remote is a wireless, infrared, learning-type remote designed to be placed on a tabletop. All major command keys, including power on/off, source selection, DVD/CD player transport functions are large and logically arranged on a touch-sensitive panel. The LCD panel is back-illuminated for easy operation in low light conditions and integrated display icons visually display operational status and system condition. Furthermore, infrequently used keys are hidden beneath a panel to prevent the disturbance of critical settings and to make everyday operation easier. A compact "egg" shaped remote is also supplied to provide a simple way of controlling all major system functions. Ergonomically designed, this sub-remote fits precisely in your hand, and due to the oversized push-buttons, makes "blind" operation possible.
To capture and reproduce all musical nuance and the visceral impact of low frequency effects, dual active subwoofers are employed. By incorporating a highly efficient 20cm driver mounted in a bass-reflex type enclosure, dynamic reproduction of low frequencies as required in the Dolby Digital format is assured. Each enclosure houses the amplifiers for entire system (3 channels on one, 4 on the other) mounted on the subwoofer's rear panel. By doing so, all speakers are perfectly matched to the power amplifiers, achieving the best possible fidelity and dynamics. Also, by using two independent subwoofer systems, the ideal "twin-mono" configuration is achieved, providing excellent bass frequency propagation and unprecedented placement flexibility.

Podlockers: Security vs Torn Clothes
So here’s another product meant to add some security to your life that may in fact leave you worse off than you would have been without it. The PodLocker is an aluminum frame that slips over several different iPod models and comes with a carabineer-style Master Lock for securing to your clothes, bag, or desk. On the surface, this seems like an idea whose time has surely come, what with the recent spate of podjackings that have plagued music-loving subway riders worldwide. Though this can have a drawback. What we will face now, is if we have a strong cloth to which attach the Podlocker. Podrobbers may still grab you iPod, ripping apart your clothes, bags, etc where the iPod is visibly secure, but not rigged too tight. If you mind having your iPod this way, just be sure nobody can rip it off.
Nice ide, but still with a headache potential problem.

Micro Robodoc for Remote Control Surgeries
Researchers at the University of Nebraska are developing a lipstick-sized robot that can be controlled from thousands of miles away, with the goal of using the bot as a remote-operated “doctor,” able to be inserted into an incision to perform surgery. According to the developer, Dr. Dmitry Oleynikov, the bots have already been successfully tested on animals, and may be used by NASA as early as next spring. For NASA to use the bots in space, however, they would have to be controlled by astronauts, rather than Earth-based doctors. We can imagine that at least some astronauts might balk at the process of inserting one of these and telling it what to do — though we assume that Dr. Oleynikov has a way to shut it down in an emergency.
My questions are, how much does this Microdoc charges? And how can you pay if you are in space?

iPods want to Treat or Trick this Halloween
If you think Halloween outfits for dogs and cats are ridiculous, you probably won't appreciate the latest fad: costumes for cell phones and iPods.
Yes, Americans are dressing inanimate, everyday objects in seasonal garb. One expert says that's unprecedented -- but to be expected.
Given how Halloween retail sales are now second only to Christmas, "It was probably inevitable that the holiday would collide head-on with the hottest products," said Lisa Morton, author of "The Halloween Encyclopedia."
"Since you can't feed an iPod candy or carve it into a jack-o'-lantern," she said, "all that's left is dressing it in costume."
Thus your iPod portable music player can become a jaunty pirate on Oct. 31, complete with teensy eye patch and sword. Your flip-phone can masquerade as a fuzzy monster named Ruphus. Or maybe a pink monkey.
"That's good for Halloween, since you don't find pink monkeys in nature," noted Shari Maxwell of Extreme Halloween Inc. in Dania Beach, Fla. Sales of the $10.95 outfits on the "Cell Phone Costumes" section of the company's Web site, anniescostumes.com, are so brisk that the staff is having trouble keeping up.
Shanalyn Victor's Pixelgirl Shop (pixelgirlshop.com) sells furry "iPod monsters" in various colors for $30. They're handmade by Ann Arbor, Mich., artist Marty Flint -- and hard to keep in stock.
"It takes him an hour for each case," said Victor, also of Ann Arbor. "We've sold 30 or 40 in the last month or two."
And yes, Victor said, an iPod is fully functional while dressed as a monster.
Cell phone outfits have been around for at least seven years. That's when the Fun Friends idea took root in Julian Parry, after he spotted a fisherman in South Africa carrying a phone inside a plush lobster toy.
Now, "We have 500 or 600 different styles," Parry said from Funfriends.com headquarters in Sarasota, Fla. Standards include a dog, cat, bear, frog, pig and monkey, available for flip-phones as well as bar-style; most retail between $7.99 and $9.99.
Halloween-theme Fun Friends were offered (and sold out) in the past, but not this year. "We're concentrating on Christmas right now," Parry said.
Basketballer Shaquille O'Neal, actress Hilary Duff, singer Avril Lavigne and model Heidi Klum have been spotted with Fun Friends on their phones.
Parry also is the father of tiny floppy-dog costumes for TV remote controls and staplers. "It's a fun little puppy dog, it's like he's taking a bite out of your paper," he said of the stapler version.
Over at iAttire.net, it's "Your Music in Costume."
Jo Ann Villalobos of Los Angeles was in an Ikea late in August when she ran across finger puppets that nearly fit her iPod Shuffle, a slim version of the player.
"But it wasn't a perfect fit. I'm a textile artist, so I started finagling with it," she said. "I finally realized that rather than re-engineer it, I'd come up with my own."
Her first design is still "everybody's favorite" -- a cowboy costume complete with hat, chaps and neckerchief. "My sister even found the tiniest checked fabric for the bandana," she said.
Villalobos began handcrafting various designs (seven especially for Halloween), and partner Rob King of San Francisco created the Web site, which launched this month. Halloween costumes sell for $39.99.
"We had to put up an FAQ, and of course the first question we answered was, `Is this a joke?"' she said.
Nope.

Monolith II MP3 Player
The Monolith II is a revolutionary MP3 player; the term “revolutionary” is often over-used, but in the case of the Monolith, such plaudits are justified. There is a massive range of MP3 players available on the market today and any new MP3 player entering the market must offer something unique. The Monolith II is fused into a solid 1.5mm aluminium casing (called X-Protect); not stuck together with glue or screws – ‘fused’, in a unique manufacturing process pioneered by the manufacturer, Estar Laboratories. This makes the Monolith II practically indestructible; it was run over with a car, shot the player with a BB gun, thrown the player against a brick wall – it just doesn’t break. There are more practical uses for this strength including making the Monolith II the ideal MP3 player for exercising or extreme sports and you simply won’t need to worry about the player if it’s just chucked into your pocket! Don’t worry about the battery either, with an internal lithium-ion rechargeable battery (featuring over 19 hours of playback time) all you need to do is connect the player to your PC’s USB port (or purchase the optional AC Power Adapter) and the player will be fully primed for action in 3 hours time.

What about audio quality? There’s not much point having a Superman of an MP3 player if it sounds like a kid’s toy! The Monolith II’s audio heart is a 24bit Wolfson sigma delta DAC; one of the most sophisticated audio processors available in a portable MP3 player today, driving an impressive 13mW of sound output per channel with a clarity of sound previously unheard of. You’ve also got a slew of core features that you’d expect in an MP3 player of this class including multi-codec support (MP3 and WMA files), an FM tuner, FM recorder, Direct MP3 Encoding, sophisticated bookmarking, digital voice recording and a lot more.
You’ve probably come to expect such features in a normal mid range MP3 player, so what’s the big deal with the Monolith II? This player goes one step further with each of these features; let me give you some examples: the screen on the Monolith II is not just black and white, it’s a two colour, 16 shades of grey, super bright, smooth scrolling, OLED display to maximise readability (before you consider a full colour screen – check out an OLED display screen, much easier to interpret and it looks cool!). Each Monolith II can be uniquely customised by downloading your own pictures / animations to use as the start up sequence or logo. Most players also have an FM recording function, the Monolith II doesn’t just offer a simple FM recorder; it offers intelligent FM timed recording (specify a time and date and it’ll start recording the radio) along with full bookmarking support within recordings. Haven’t got access to a PC but your friend is playing a track that you just have to get? Connect a cable to the Monolith II’s Line In socket and record directly into MP3 format. Sure, most MP3 players these days can do this, but the Monolith II features adjustable sampling rates, 39 choices of recording bitrates and the choice of recording into stereo or mono.
As well as direct encoding and FM recording, the Monolith II is also the perfect MP3 player for a student or business person looking for a digital dictation machine. With a built in Sound Activity Detector (SAD) and a super sensitive internal microphone, the Monolith II can automatically turn on and off its recording systems depending on the level of sound present in the room. Again, you have access to 39 different bitrates to record files into. Don’t forget, if you find that you need an even more sensitive microphone to the one built into the Monolith II, you have the ability to attach an external self powered and self amplified microphone to the Monolith II’s Line In socket (optional accessory, not supplied).
Want to wake up next to a beautiful woman in the morning? OK, the Monolith II can’t quite manage this – we’re working on it; however, you can be woken up with the pulsating beat of your favourite music track. The Monolith II is not just an MP3 player, it’s also a digital alarm clock; allowing you specify a music wake up time and even an auto sleep time. Want to learn a new language? The Monolith II excels in this area, if you still can’t justify buying the Monolith II as the best flash based MP3 player currently on the market – remember it’s also an educational learning aid that can help you and people all around the world expand their knowledge and communicate with different cultures on our planet. I’m possibly overstating the educational abilities of the Monolith II slightly, but the player does offer 13 levels of playback speed control, quick repeat functions and cue-review features making the player ideal for language learning or playing back audio books.
You can see by the length of this review the sheer volume of features that the manufacturer has crammed into the tiny case of the Monolith II and we’re barely half way through! The player is in fact tiny (it looks quite big on the photos), it’s actually about the height of a cigarette lighter and not a lot wider. Don’t forget the sophisticated bookmarking support allowing mid track bookmark support and infinitive resume options (the Monolith II can start playing from the exact position in the music track when it was switched off).
Want to transport files from home to your work, from university to your flat, from your house to a friend’s house – you get the point, with full Removable Disk Drive support (no need for drivers), the Monolith II is also a USB hard drive; no fuss, just plug the player into your PC and transfer files, there is no copyright protection and no restrictions unlike many other players.
To summarise, the Monolith II is an MP3 player, an FM tuner, an FM recorder, a digital dictation machine, an MP3 recorder, an educational language learning tool, a digital alarm clock, a clock, a sleep timer and in our opinion, a work of art. Don’t be put off by the massive range of features if you are an MP3 player beginner or just want an MP3 player to play music – the Monolith II’s icon driven menu systems and simple intuitive controls make the player accessible to all.

Oakley Thump Digital Audio Eyewear
Introducing OAKLEY THUMP, the world’s first digital audio eyewear. The revolutionary design seamlessly integrates a music player and earphones right into the frame. That means no more wires. Just high performance optics forged with a state-of-the-art digital audio engine. Listen to music virtually anywhere. OAKLEY THUMP will change the way you see and hear the world.
Your ears are on your head, so why should your music system hang on your waist? OAKLEY THUMP shatters the block-and-cord design that hasn’t changed since portable players were invented 25 years ago. It gives the wearer complete freedom to enjoy music during activities where tethered players with cords and separate base units can be cumbersome, or even dangerous.

Oakley went a step further and engineered the earphones and lenses with flip-up mechanisms so they can be disengaged and re-engaged instantly. That makes it practical to carry on a conversation, grab a call, or listen to music indoors. All this technology weighs less than 1.9 ounces, so you get all-day comfort.
State-of-the-art fidelity. The integrated electronics feature a 75MHz Digital Signal Processor, custom engineered to get premium sound out of compressed MP3 and WMA song files. An 18-bit Sigma Delta DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) is optimized for acoustically pure audio with a signal-to noise ratio of greater than 87dB. Sound processing includes anti-pop algorithms and short-circuit protection for extra clarity. Mylar sonic expansion speakers pump out a full range of frequency response, up to the 20 kHz limit of human hearing. All that adds up to true-sounding audio with stunning fidelity.
Advanced cranial hardware. OAKLEY THUMP lets you control the mix of music vs. environment. The speakers are mounted on miniature extendible booms for precise positioning, and they pivot away so you can listen to a conversation or grab a call. They flip back down instantly so you won’t miss a beat. No more fighting with wires or shoving things into your ears.
Optical overkill. All this technology is integrated into world-class eyewear sculpture. Patented XYZ Optics maximizes visual clarity, even at the sides of raked-back lens contours. Plutonite lens material blocks 100% of all UV and harmful blue light, and polarization and Iridium lens coatings cut glare and optimize vision.
Control at your fingertips. No more digging into your pocket or fumbling with a wired remote to find a button. All controls blend seamlessly into the frame geometry, and we put them where you can find them instantly.
Six-hour battery life. A specially designed lithium ion polymer cell minimizes weight and provides up to six hours of continuous music. For the ultimate in convenience, charging can be done through the USB cable or an optional external charger. (Optional accessories include a Car Charger and a World Wall Charger with four adapter plugs for international travel).
Compatibility. Right out of the box, OAKLEY THUMP works with most Mac and Windows PCs. No set-up required. No software to install. Pick either platform — or both. And use whatever music jukebox program you want. MusicMatch, Windows Media Player, whatever. OAKLEY THUMP is the world’s first cross-platform, plug-and-play digital music eyewear.
Lighting file transfer. OAKLEY THUMP comes with a USB 2.0 cable for connecting to your computer. USB 2.0 is optimized for speed, so copying a full 120- song jam takes no time at all. And it couldn’t be simpler. When you connect OAKLEY THUMP to your computer, it shows up on your desktop. All you do is move song files — MP3, WMA or WAV format — with a simple drag and drop.
Digital cargo. Use OAKLEY THUMP to store and transport computer files. While you’re playing your favorite tunes, you can haul virtually any kind of data. Transfer the files to another computer with the fast USB connection. Or use OAKLEY THUMP to backup critical files from work and keep them safe in your brainframe.

SWISSMEMORY™ USB Victorinox, the liaison between the traditional Swiss pocket knife and a Hi-Speed USB storage device is now available on the market with a capacity of 1 GB in addition to the classic variant in rubyRED and in the chic Silver Edition retroALOX.
The new exclusive retroALOX Edition with its ribbed Alox cover is also available in 256 MB and in addition
to the 1GB version. In comparison with the colourful pocket knives the silver-coloured technical accessory functions without LED and biro focusing exclusively on its elegant looks. The small-size Swiss specialist demonstrates its new king’s storage class in rubyRED self-confidently focusing on its white LED with high illuminating power. It thus stands out from the crowd of proven models featuring a lower capacity and red light. It goes without saying that all versions are furnished with scissors, file and knife, things that you won’t want to miss if you are outdoors.
No matter whether in rubyRED or retroALOX, 1 GB variants permit large data volumes of any format to be transported in mobile operation. Thanks to its headstart in technology and its further development Swissbit was able to cross the GB limit with its SWISSMEMORX™ USB Victorinox. A USB 2.0 controller guarantees a high-speed transmission of data with transfer rates of up to 8 MB / s. Thanks to Plug&Play the Swiss specialist is available as an external storage medium within next to nothing.
The Travel-it-easy™ Software stored on the USB Sticks converts the small handy aid into a pocket-size office. By synchronising personal user data using the USB storage medium on your own computer mails in Outlook

The software additionally enables surfing in the Internet without leaving a trace, as temporary Internet files and cookies are saved on the mobile storage medium. Thanks to password protection data stored on the medium are
protected against unauthorised access. The only exception is the „Lost & Found function“, a form saved as HTML file containing personal contact data which is immediately available to anybody if the knife is lost and found.
All new SWISSMEMORY™ USB Victorinox models are additionally available in the Flight Version, which is not equipped with scissors, knife and file so that you will have no problems with when passing the baggage control point at the airport. Customers are granted a two-year guarantee for the USB memory, for the knife corpus a life-long guarantee covering all material and fabrication defects. Iomega Mixx
Lots of digital storage companies have been jumping into the MP3 player game lately, including big names like SanDisk and Lexar. Now Iomega has joined the fray with its Iomega Mixx, a "sports-oriented" flash-based player that runs on a single triple-A battery with mostly unimpressive results. At $129.95 list for 1GB, the Mixx isn't expensive, but there are better choices available in the same price range, such as the MobiBlu DAH-1500i. The company also offers 512MB and 256MB versions for $89.95 and $59.95, respectively.
The Mixx is small and very light, measuring 3 by 1.5 by 0.9 inches and weighing just 1.3 ounces with the included battery. The Mixx has plenty of extras that are becoming standard—at least on non-Apple players—including an FM tuner with 30 presets, a voice recorder with a built-in mic, and FM recording capability. It also does A/B repeat, which is a favorite feature of ours. File format support is limited to MP3, WMA (unprotected only), and WAV, and it also supports ID3 tags so you can see information about the current song. You can even view lyrics (.lrc) files while you're listening to music.

MP3 Ebuyer Ecoman
Once upon a time, Sony's fancy pants cassette Walkmans would set you back £200 - until they became a complete commodity and cheap rivals appeared at £10 a pop.
Well, the same price-cutting trend has finally hit the MP3 world. It ain't pretty and it doesn't do much, but the 24g Ebuyer Ecoman (above left) does cost the same as a ticket to the cinema. For a tenner, you get MP3 playback, one AAA battery that'll run for eight hours and a pair of in-ear headphones.
What you don't get is any storage. The Ecoman uses SD and MMC cards to store your tunes and a 512MB SD one will set you back £23. So the reality is that this is a £33 MP3 player - making it dangerously close to half the price of Apple's gorgeous, iTunes-compatible 512MB Shuffle.
For those feeling particularly lavish, Ebuyer is also selling the £13 'MP3 Player with Expansion Slot' which features a tiny, calculator-size screen. Like the cheap-as-chips Ecoman, you'll need to add a SD/MMC card.

Dell Axim X50v
Today, PDAs are no longer one-trick ponies. They can organize data, connect to the Web, play music and videos, and more. And now, Dell has unleashed its newest talent: the Axim X50v. Like HP's iPaq rx3715 Mobile Media Companion, the X50v aims to blend digital entertainment with productivity for a PDA that does it all. This star's massive features list includes a VGA screen, a dedicated graphics engine, wireless connectivity, and Windows Media Player 10.0 Mobile. And similar to the Palm-OS based gaming handheld, the Tapwave Zodiac2, the X50v comes with a games bundle to satisfy the player in you. As the flagship model of the X50 series, the X50v costs $499, but if you don't need all the bells and whistles, check out the midlevel model or the entry-level X50.
A check under the Dell Axim X50v's hood shows a well-equipped and powerful handheld. There's an Intel 624MHz XScale PXA270 processor that, like any chip in this family, features SpeedStep and Wireless MMX technology to optimize battery life. However, the X50v doesn't stop there. Complementing the handheld's VGA screen is a dedicated Intel 2700G graphics engine with 16MB of video memory for better video playback and an improved gaming experience (see Performance). Road warriors can take advantage of the graphics processor to give presentations on the go with Dell's Presentation Kit, which includes a VGA cable to hook to the projector and Westtek's ClearVue Suite for $79. Memory is ample, with 128MB of flash ROM and 64MB of SDRAM (139MB of which are user accessible). If that's not enough, the dual CompactFlash and SD expansion slots should do the trick.
The expansion options are particularly attractive since the X50 is the first Pocket PC to offer Windows Media Player 10.0 Mobile. What does this mean for you? In short, it's a better multimedia experience. Aside from being able to carry your favorite WMA, MP3, and WMV music files on your handheld, you can now view album art as songs are playing. Also, Windows Media Digital Rights Management 10.0 gives you access to audio and video content from subscription services, such as Musicmatch and CinemaNow. Do you like to show off photos and videos? You can do that too with WMP 10.0. But wait, there's more--to really drive home the fact that this is a multimedia device, the X50v ships with a games bundle that includes Stuntcar Extreme and 3D puzzles such as Enigmo.
Wireless connection comes in the form of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, which can be used simultaneously. The X50v ships with a WLAN utility that shows signal strength, encryption options, certificate enrollment for advanced Wi-Fi authentication, and more. Bluetooth opens the doors to communication with other devices, allowing users to do even more with the X50. For instance, paired with Dell's GPS receiver ($249) the X50v can be used as a navigation device, or you can connect to a Bluetooth keyboard, such as the Think Outside Stowaway, for more productivity.
Like the latest crop of PDAs, the X50v comes loaded with Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, which supports Landscape mode--a boon if you're keen on flashing photos, surfing the Web, or working on spreadsheets. As you would expect, Pocket Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer are present, while other applications and utilities include MSN Messenger, a VPN client, a clock, a calculator, File Store, and Backup. There's also a companion CD with demo versions of programs such as Cash Organizer 2003, Full Hand Casino, and McAfee VirusScan PDA.

iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 Battery Exchange Program

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and other international safety authorities, Apple is voluntarily recalling certain lithium ion rechargeable batteries that were sold worldwide from October 2004 through May 2005 for use with the following notebook computers: 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4 and 15-inch PowerBook G4. These batteries were manufactured by LG Chem, Ltd. of South Korea.
The affected batteries could overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers. Apple has received six consumer reports of these batteries overheating. If you have a recalled battery, please stop using it and order a replacement battery immediately. Once you have removed the battery, plug in the AC adapter to power the computer. If you must temporarily use your computer with the battery, do not leave it unattended and check for signs of overheating.
Apple has initiated a worldwide exchange program and will provide eligible customers with a new replacement battery, free of charge.
Identifying your battery

The recalled batteries include those with model numbers A1061, A1078, and A1079 and serial numbers that begin with HQ441 through HQ507 and 3X446 through 3X510. To view the model and serial numbers labeled on the bottom of the battery, you must remove the battery from the computer. The battery serial number is printed in black or dark grey lettering beneath a barcode. See photos below. Please use the chart below to identify the battery model and serial numbers that apply to your iBook or PowerBook.
Computer Battery Battery serial
model model number number range
12-inch iBook G4 A1061 HQ441 – HQ507
12-inch PowerBook G4 A1079 3X446 – 3X510
15-inch PowerBook G4 A1078 3X446 – 3X509
Note: If your battery serial number does not match the requirements listed above, you do not have to exchange your battery.
National and regional resellers, catalogers, and Apple's on-line and retail stores sold the computers with the batteries from October 2004 through May 2005 for between US$900 and US$2300. These batteries were also sold separately for about US$130.
The Exchange Process
To begin the battery exchange process, you will be asked for the serial number of your iBook G4 or PowerBook G4, the serial number of your battery and a ship to address.
After serial number verification, a new battery will be shipped to you, free of charge. When you receive the replacement battery, please use the same shipping packaging and included prepaid shipping label to return the recalled battery to Apple.
If you have recently purchased an extra or replacement battery for any of the computer models noted above or a 12-inch iBook G3, please check the battery's serial number to see if it needs to be exchanged.

Nokia N70
One of the three newborns in the Nokia family of N series phones has the tag line Slide, Shoot and Share photos. As phenomenal as a tropical storm, the Nokia N70 never fails to release a strong surge of digital adrenaline to any one who lays hands on it.
The Nokia N70’s strength lies in the mobile phone’s ability to shoot oh-so-clear pictures. You can get 176 x 208-sized pictures, with 262,144 colors, and the N70 camera is a 2 mega pixel unit.
You can also synchronize data in your Nokia N70 while using your PC. It’s easy and there’s no need to be intimidated. You can also share pictures using the Lifeblog feature of the Nokia N70; but I guess this feature will have to wait until our mobile phone service providers offer it. And it is real easy to print pictures stored in the N70. This can be done by just connecting your phone to a compatible printer.
The Nokia N70 can keep you company with music. You can have the FM radio while doing your job. It can play in loudspeaker mode but it needs an earphone attached to it. The N70’s audio quality is superb and listening to music stored in it was like listening to a high-end speaker. The phone, by the way, can play MP3 files without having to plug in an earphone.
It is easy to dismiss the N70 as just a high performance multi-media gizmo, but really it is more than that. Nokia took great pains to improve the communications quality of the N70 and the results are truly spectacular. Rather than overwhelm you with needless descriptions, it is sufficient to say that the N70 comes very close to being the ultimate, mobile communications device.

iPods Cases
In just a few years, Apple's iPod MP3 players have gone from geeky gadget to "gotta have it."
But having the pricey gizmo may no longer be enough. This fall, couture designers from Chanel to Marc Jacobs are offering cases in calfskin, signature canvas, you name it -- sometimes at more than $300 a pop.
"It used to be that protection for the iPod was the most important thing. ... Leather cases that provide padding and soft interior materials were what people craved," says Dean Constantine of XtremeMac, a third-party manufacturer of iPod accessories. "Now, people just want something stylish, and many own multiple cases for their iPods."
So designers are going after a different breed of shopper. "Their target market is a fashionista who owns an iPod," Constantine says. "I doubt that people who wouldn't normally buy Coach or Kate Spade items would shell out $100 to $300 for an iPod case made by them. On the other hand, the Coach addicts out there will absolutely shelve their existing $30 leather case and run out to buy the new Coach case."
Designer-case costs include $55 for a leather wristlet case from Kate Spade and $230 for the Black Tie iPod case by Christian Dior.
According to Newsweek, fashion powerhouse Karl Lagerfeld stores his music collection among 60 iPods, each laser coded to tell what tunes are inside. On a runway in Milan last year, he showed his affinity for the players by unveiling the $1,500 Fendi Juke Box, a bread-box-sized bag built to carry 12 iPods.

Girlies iPod
It’s official: the consumer market for the latest high-tech gizmos are no longer confined to the male population. Now online stores swear by their latest figures that females are almost equalling their male counterparts when it comes to snatching up must-haves like iPods and laptops.
The iPod mini seems to be on everyone’s wish list. Available in five funky colours — including pink, green and blue — you can match it to any outfit, depending on your mood.
The mini has up to eight hours of battery life so you can jam to it at work — and at gym afterwards. The 4GB model holds up to 1000 songs and is compatible with Mac and Windows. It’s also small enough to fit into the palm of your hand, which means that it shouldn’t take up valuable space in your handbag.
